Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SpongeBob SquarePants!
In this tutorial I will show you how to draw SpongeBob Squarepants, one of the strangest and most beloved children’s cartoon characters. The lesson only has a few steps and can be easily done by most regardless of your skill level.
First thing we will do is just draw a few simple guidelines so we can get the proportions of SpongeBob correct.
The vertical guideline here is 5 unites high. The horizontal guideline is 3 unites high. I marked the he units so you can see how I measured the lines. It is not necessary for you to draw the guidelines though.
It's not necessary to use a ruler for this tutorial but go ahead and use one if you find it helpful.
Draw the right side of his lower body. These will be his pants. The pants are about 1 unit high.
The vertical guideline on the right is just to measure the height of SpongeBob’s body and head. You can erase most of it but keep it visible so you know how tall to draw him. Remember to leave the pants.
The pants are about 1 unit tall.
Draw the top of SpongeBob and part of the right side. Let the lines on the right be at a slight angle leaning to the right.
Leave a little space so you can draw his arms.
Draw SpongeBob’s shoulders and arms. I drew them hanging at this sides but you can easier draw him waving or holding something (maybe a Krabby Patty!).
Draw the legs. These will be curved lines rather than straight.
Draw his socks and the stripes on them. Give SpongeBob shoes and add an oval to them. This will be to show that light is bouncing off them.
SpongeBob is obviously a sharp dressed man so give him a collar and tie. Then draw his belt.
The mouth should be placed in the lower half of SpongeBob’s face. Draw his two buckteeth. Draw his cheeks and add three freckles.
The eyes will be two circles. The one of the right will be crossing over the left. Remember to add three thick eyelashes to each eye.
Leave room for the nose and the cheek. The eyes will be placed “behind” them.
Color SpongeBob’s shoes and belt black.
Draw the pores on SpongeBob’s body. This is the final step on how to draw Spongebob.
Congratulations on finishing the How to Draw SpongeBob SquarePants lesson! You can now ink the picture or also color
it with colored pencils or markers.
